The translated version of the coronavirus review for Lapland is published once a week.
Everyone staying in Lapland must take a coronavirus test even with the slightest of symptoms that are related to the coronavirus.

Lapland Hospital District

The Lapland Hospital District is in the baseline phase of the epidemic.

The incidence rate based on the last two weeks (6–19 September) is 65.9 per 100,000 inhabitants.
The incidence rate based on one week (13–19 September) is 40.2 per 100,000 inhabitants.

This incidence rate also includes cases of patients who live outside the Lapland Hospital District area. For this reason, the figure can differ from that announced by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) that does not count those living outside of Lapland.  

In the area of the Lapland Hospital District, there has been possible exposure to the coronavirus in several places

Last week (week no. 37, 13–19 September), a total of 27 coronavirus infections were confirmed in the Lapland Hospital District. Altogether 3,205 coronavirus tests were taken in the area. The proportion of positive test cases in relation to the total number of tests taken was 1.47 percent.

26 cases of coronavirus infections have been confirmed this week in total. Most of the infections have been confirmed in Rovaniemi, but individual infections have also been detected elsewhere in the hospital district area.

Of the total population of Finland, 73.9 percent have received the first dose of the vaccine and 58.0 percent have received the second dose.

The total number of cases confirmed in the Lapland Hospital District on the basis of coronavirus tests conducted at testing stations is 1,462. This figure also includes persons living outside the area.

Länsi-Pohja Hospital District

The coronavirus review for Länsi-Pohja Hospital District is mainly published on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Länsi-Pohja Hospital District is now in the baseline phase of the epidemic.

Many non-vaccinated middle-aged people in hospital care – vaccination is strongly recommended

Also, in the Länsi-Pohja Hospital District, a number of young non-vaccinated middle-aged people have recently been hospitalised, who have been found to have a serious form of the coronavirus disease. The hospital district strongly recommends vaccination for all those aged 12 years or over. Vaccinations are now well available. 

Last week, a total of 15 new cases were confirmed. Nine of these were with people who were already in quarantine, and a large number of these are related to the earlier Keminmaa school exposure. Three of last week’s cases come from the Swedish side of the border. In addition, for a few cases, the source of the infection is still unclear. 

Most of the infections are now spreading among the immediate family with children and non-vaccinated adults. 

During this week, a total of four coronavirus infections have been confirmed in the Länsi-Pohja Hospital District.
