Lapland Hospital District

Rovaniemi is in the acceleration phase of the epidemic. The other regions of the Lapland Hospital District are in the baseline phase of the epidemic.

The incidence rate based on the last two weeks (16–29 August) is 105.2 per 100,000 inhabitants. The incidence rate based on one week (23–29 August) is 34.2 per 100,000 inhabitants. This incidence rate also includes cases of patients who live outside the Lapland Hospital District area. For this reason, the figure can differ from that announced by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) that does not count those living outside of Lapland.

During the current week, a total of 15 COVID-19 infection cases have been confirmed to date. Tracing the origins of all cases has been successful. Of these cases, one (1) was reported in Sodankylä, two (2) in Kittilä, and the remaining 12 in Rovaniemi, with half of these being confirmed at the Ounasrinne School.

Last week, a total of 40 cases of infection were confirmed in the area, 19 of which were found with berry pickers. There are still no cases of infection reported from the Simerock Music Festival or Jukolan Viesti Orienteering Competition. As it has been over a week since these two events were held, it is rather likely that there will not be any cases related to these two events.

Last week (23–29 August), a total of 6,104 coronavirus tests were done in the Lapland Hospital District, of which the number of positive results accounted for 0.66%.  To date, 71.6% of the population entitled to receive the vaccine has received the first dose of the vaccine and 46.6% have received both doses of the vaccine.

Week no. 34 (23–29 August): 40 cases
Week no. 35 (current week): 15 cases (as of 1 September at 14:20)

The total number of cases confirmed in the Lapland Hospital District on the basis of coronavirus tests conducted at testing stations is 1,347. This figure also includes persons living outside the area.

Länsi-Pohja Hospital District

The Länsi-Pohja Hospital District is now in the baseline phase of the epidemic.

A total of eight (8) new cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the Länsi-Pohja Hospital District: six (6) on Tuesday and two (2) today.

Three (3) cases out of last week’s 11 cases were confirmed with people who were already in quarantine. Five (5) cases came in from abroad (Sweden). All Finns working in the Skellefteå Municipality in Sweden are urged to take a coronavirus test even when experiencing the slightest of symptoms. Of last week’s 11 cases of infection, four (4) cases were confirmed at the border testing station with people passing through.

Coronavirus testing has been occasionally congested. In order to ensure that people experiencing symptoms get quick access to testing and for ensuring that the tracing of infections is effective, people who are not experiencing any symptoms should not take a coronavirus test without separate doctor’s orders issued by the communicable diseases physician.

Number of positive coronavirus tests confirmed in the Länsi-Pohja Hospital District by week
