The translated version of the coronavirus review for Lapland is published weekly.
You still need to take a coronavirus test even when experiencing the mildest of symptoms, if you have the risk of being infected with a severe case of the coronavirus disease, or if you may have been exposed to the coronavirus, or you are employed in the social and health sector.

Lapland Hospital District

The Lapland Hospital District is in the baseline phase of the epidemic.
The incidence rate based on the last two weeks (27 September – 10 October) is 56.5 per 100,000 inhabitants.
The incidence rate based on one week (4–10 October) is 21.4 per 100,000 inhabitants.
This incidence rate also includes cases of patients who live outside the Lapland Hospital District area. For this reason, the figure can differ from that announced by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) that does not count those living outside of Lapland.
Four new coronavirus infections were confirmed this week – all in Rovaniemi and all with people already in quarantine
Two (2) new coronavirus cases have been confirmed since the previous review. Both cases were reported in Rovaniemi and the persons were already in quarantine.
Last week (week no. 40, 4–10 October), a total of 25 coronavirus infections were confirmed in the Lapland Hospital District. 23 of these infections were confirmed in Rovaniemi. A total of 2420 coronavirus tests were taken in the Lapland Hospital District last week, with 2246 of these being rapid antigen tests. The proportion of positive test cases in relation to the total number of tests taken was 1.03 percent.
Of the total population of Finland, 74.7 percent have received the first dose of the vaccine and 63.7 percent have received the second dose.

The total number of cases confirmed in the Lapland Hospital District on the basis of coronavirus tests conducted at testing stations is 1,559. This figure also includes persons living outside the area.

Länsi-Pohja Hospital District

The coronavirus review for the Länsi-Pohja Hospital District is mainly published on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Länsi-Pohja Hospital District is in the acceleration phase of the epidemic.
Regional Pandemic Working Group: Länsi-Pohja is in the acceleration phase
During last week, 54 coronavirus infections were confirmed in the Länsi-Pohja Hospital District. During this week, the number new confirmed infections to date is 14. The majority of infections are with people who have not received the vaccine, with only one person who has been vaccinated.
Although the coronavirus situation in Länsi-Pohja has deteriorated in recent weeks, there are currently no coronavirus patients in hospital care. However, on the basis of the number of cases of infection, the epidemic is in the accelerating phase in the Länsi-Pohja area.
To date, 73 percent of all people eligible to receive the vaccine in the Länsi-Pohja Hospital District have received at least one dose. Approximately 61.4 of the population has received two doses of the vaccine. Vaccines are well available in the municipalities of the region. Municipalities inform about vaccination matters on their websites.
The recommendation for remote working will continue until the end of the year
As the situation in the region has deteriorated, it is still advisable to observe the COVID-19 safety measures, good hand hygiene and safe distancing. It is also recommended to continue to use face masks in situations where the safe distancing cannot be guaranteed. The national recommendation to use face masks in upper secondary schools has now been lifted. The Regional Pandemic Work Group for Länsi-Pohja recommends using face masks in schools when infections occur.
The national recommendation for remote working will also be lifted this Friday. In the Länsi-Pohja Hospital District, the recommendation for remote working will continue until the end of the year.
