Lapland Hospital District coronavirus review
During the period 5–18 October (week numbers 41 and 42), a total of 21 new coronavirus infections were verified in the Lapland Hospital District. The incidence of the epidemic is 17.9 per 100,000 inhabitants over a 14-day period. This means that the incidence of the epidemic has dropped compared to the figure for the previous two weeks.
A significant number of the infections for the weeks in question were related to the Ylläs chain of infections that has already been resolved. During the period 12–18 October (week no. 42), six new infections were verified in the Lapland Hospital District that were from the chain of infections that was related to the Rovaniemen Kiekon U15 ice hockey team visiting the city of Vaasa.
The source of almost every infection has been traced and the corona situation in the Lapland Hospital District remains calm.
Sports and other team events, gatherings and crowds pose a risk for contracting the coronavirus, which is why the Infection Prevention Unit continues to recommend that people wear face masks and adhere to social distancing rules, and to take good care of hand and coughing hygiene.
